U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

This song defines my spiritual experience and hopefully yours too. It may sound negative on the surface, but it is not. It describes how we long to know God and seek Him everywhere. Everyone does whether they realize it or not. And until we meet Him in heaven, we will not fully find what we are looking for. The writer did not say "I still haven't found what I'm looking for, so I am giving up", but simply "I still haven't found what I am looking for", implying that he is still searching, seeking to know God, as we all should do. It is what we were created for.

I also recommend these three excellent books on the subject:

Searching For God Knows What - Donald Miller
i am not but i know I AM - Louie Giglio
Soul Cravings - Erwin McManus

U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For from the Joshua Tree album (1987)

I have climbed highest mountain
I have run through the fields

Only to be with you
Only to be with you

I have run
I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire

I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I believe in the kingdom come
Then all the colors will bleed into one
Bleed into one
Well yes I'm still running

You broke the bonds and you
Loosed the chains
Carried the cross
Of my shame
Of my shame
You know I believed it

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for...

Hey Jacob - it's Jennifer. I saw your little link on my homepage of Facebook so I thought I'd check it out. My friend Alex did this once, he didn't keep it up which was kind of a shame, he had some good stuff on his.
I like that song too, heh. One of my favorite songs is not spiritual really, but it has good lyrics, in my opinion.

"Paper Walls" by Yellowcard

Let's burn a hole, so we can climb out
Of these paper walls, and this empty house
Don't listen too close, they're words are like guns
With bullets that fly and kill what you've won...

Let's burn a hole, so we can climb out
Of these paper walls, and this empty house
We're the only thing that's real...

These visions we have of ten years ago,
Of stars in the sky and us down below
In streets and east coast lines,
We kept this scene alive

Here I am, still hold on to this,
Dream we had, won't let go of it,
Hear me now, you will never be alone...

Don't listen too close, they're words are like guns
With bullets that fly and kill what you've won
Some love to hate, and some tell you lies
So lets make a toast, and kiss them goodbye...

We'll kiss them all goodbye...

Here I am, still hold on to this,
Dream we had, won't let go of it,
Hear me now, you will never be alone...

Here I stand, won't turn back again.
Won't leave you, know how hard it's been
Hear me now, you will never be alone...

Let's take what hurts, and write it all down
On these paper walls, and this empty house
And when our ink runs out, we'll burn it to the ground...

Here I am, still hold on to this
Dream we had, won't let go of it,
Hear me now, you will never be alone...

Here I stand, won't turn back again
Won't leave you, know how hard it's been
Hear me now, you will never be alone...

I like this song so much because shortly before I got this CD, I went to this youth thing where we wrote down one personal secret and threw it into this big fire. It was kind of relieving and you could feel everyone sigh as they got to release it.

Sometimes we hold onto things for so long they can eat away at us. And sometimes we can harbor secrets about something we've done or something we feel but cannot say, and being able to let go of it the way we did definitely helped me out. We got to get rid of what we were holding that was hurting us and keep the rest.

It just kind of reminded me of it really.

I have been to youth events where we have done that too. It really is pretty cool. I am glad you found this song that reminds you of that.
