Where Eye Meets Eye - Blindside

This song is along the same lines as I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, as far as meaning goes. It speaks of being aware of how amazing God is and how small we are compared to Him. It expresses a longing to understand and to align our attitude and our passion with God's.

I am trying to pick out lines to discuss and I can't do it. There are too many. So, I will just sum it up. The first verse describes how we feel when we discover God. The chorus expresses an anxiety, almost a fear of what will happen, but still being willing to give our hearts to God because we have experienced Him on a personal level and cannot turn back. The next part is kind of out there, but the last line hit me hard - "I will never again praise You because of duty."
Pretty powerful, since that is what I have done at times, along with a lot of Christians, particularly in America. We feel that we have to go to church because Jesus saved us and now we owe it to Him. We should be very passionate about our worship, and constantly aware of how awesome He is - and I don't mean that He is cool (but He is); I mean that He inspires awe or wonder. And then the last statement - "I want my heart to break for the things that make Your heart break." - Self explanatory, but very inspiring. This song has convicted me many times.

Blindside is a Swedish band. They play loud, and fast. Because of their sound and appearance you might not ever know about their faith - but their lyrics leave no doubt. Far better than most mainstream christian artists. It is also interesting to see the improvement in writing songs in English from the first album to now. A Thought Crushed My Mind is their second album and my favorite. They have released five albums total.

Where Eye Meets Eye - written by Christian Lindskog from the album A Thought Crushed My Mind (2000)

One glimpse of You and I shrink
The hand of shame squeezes my stomach
You don't really know me I allowed myself to think
One glimpse of You and I know it's not in your nature to turn your back
And I want to give You more than I have got
So tiny I'm almost disappearing in this world
You're holding in your hand
Still You know my name

This is my heart resting in the palm of my hand
This is more then I've planned from the start
Holding it up to the sky for You to see
I feel You but don't understand

The second You stepped through the door or was it the ceiling
I stood and beheld Your beauty
This worn-out skin is peeling
I will never again praise You because of duty

I want my heart to break for the things that make
Your heart break
